Watford Ladies to travel to Italy
Pre-season tour announced...
WATFORD Ladies will travel to the North of Italy for a four day training camp as part of their pre-season preparations.
The Hornets will be based in Florence from September 8 to 11. It will be the first time the club has headed abroad for a pre-season trip.
We have been invited by CF Florentia, who will be hosting us during the trip. The side were recently promoted to Serie-B and will provide one of two friendly matches against the Golden Girls.
Head-Coach Keith Boanas highlighted the importance of a pre-season trip as he continues to build his squad ahead of the new campaign.
"Simply travelling together and being in a different environment helps greatly with team bonding and camaraderie," explained Boanas, looking ahead to the trip.
"The opportunity to play foreign opposition is always a fresh challenge, and we are fortunate enough to be playing a very decent Italian side. My experience of the Italian National team tells me it will be a great experience for our players especially the vast majority who have not had International experience of any sorts.
"Of course we have one or two that have, and they can certainly help the other players with advice and adjusting to that different cultural challenge.
"I am of course more than happy that the club have supported us in organising the trip and our Italian hosts for helping make it possible. Although I am fortunate enough to have visited and coached in many countries during my time as a national team coach, it's a privilege for both myself and the staff to be taking the first Watford Ladies side abroad."
Interim General Manager Ed Henderson too expressed his gratitude towards CF Florentia, as the Golden Girls head across Europe before the start of the new season.
"We are extremely grateful for the invite and are excited to be heading abroad as part of our pre-season schedule," he said.
"This new season is going to be like no other, Watford Ladies are on the up and going abroad for the first time highlights just that. Everyone involved wants to take this club to the next level both on and off the pitch.
"The players and staff deserve occasions like this for their continued commitment to the club, and all of the hard work they have put in to improving both the image and fortunes of this club. I hope this trip signals a sign of things to come."
The tour will give Boanas' Golden Girls the perfect preparation as they go into the new WSL 2 winter league format. Find out more about our hosts by clicking here.
Pre-season friendlies commence tomorrow (July 16) for Watford Ladies as we take on Stevenage Ladies. Our Development Team kick-off at 12:00 against their Reserves, and the Firsts at 15:00. Both matches will be played at the Herts FA Headquarters in Letchworth: entry is £3.50.
